Holox has developed a patented computer-generated holographic optical-film mastering tool, the FringeWriter™ Platform, and associated software that for the first time can create complex slanted optical gratings that will combine the functions of existing optical light management films into one inexpensive layer. Holograms, especially volume holograms, have long been known to have important optical properties such as high efficiency, but there has been no way to reproduce the complex structures required at reasonable cost until now.

               
           

Holox films can have several different properties in the same film because of this ability to computer-generate complex slanted gratings across a surface.  These properties can be broken down into several categories:

•  Light focusing, shaping, splitting, and diffusing     
• Light redirection and angular selectivity
• Wavelength or color selectivity
• Polarization selectivity
• Light trapping

All these properties can be designed, for each application, into the same optical master; copies can then be replicated into inexpensive plastic by well-known uv casting techniques.
